Level 4 (Intermediate)

Class Goals and Outline

Students will practice conveying their own ideas in Japanese by watching Japanese TEDx* presentations, listening to the point of view of the speakers, and discussing their themes. In the latter half of the class, they will practice speaking about their own ideas and point of view in Japanese. They will give special effort to writing presentations using correct grammar/vocabulary,  speaking with correct pronunciation, and improving their practical Japanese abilities (listening, reading, speaking, writing).

*TEDx (Technology, Entertainment, Design) is a global community that shares the principle of "spreading valuable ideas."

Eligibility

A2.2 level in the CEFR/JF Standard for Japanese-Language Education (N3 in the JLPT).

Learning Objectives

B1 level in the  CEFR/JF Standard for Japanese-Language Education

-Learn to understand the essential points of clearly spoken, standard language, related to very common situations, such as work, school, and leisure

-Learn to listen to, and understand the essential points of, relatively slow, clearly spoken, brief news from the radio etc. on very common topics

-Learn to explain, and make understood, one's own opinions and reactions, things to be done next, and simple reasons in relation to problem solving

-Learn to give relatively fluent presentations on related themes

Number of Classes (per week)

Fall/spring terms: once/week (1 period/week), 14 classes total 

Course Content

-Hearing and understanding assertions

-Discussion

-Using correct grammar/vocabulary in writing

-Presentations

-Ensuring pronunciation is intelligible to native Japanese speakers

-Writing a presentation invitation etc.

Presentations (50%)

Participation (50%): Preparation, attendance, participation in class activities, homework
