Class Goals and Outline

Students will study pre-modern (prior to the 19th century) history and cultural phenomena. In addition to learning basic Japanese history, they will think about values and worldviews occurring in modern society through differences in the cultural contexts.

Eligibility

B1 level in the CEFR/JF Standard for Japanese-Language Education (N2 in the JLPT)

Learning Objectives

-Learn to listen to and understand somewhat specialized Japanese presentations, and be able to discuss them

-Grasp Japanese history and culture from the perspective of comparative history

-Recognize differences in linguistic and cultural backgrounds among classmates from other countries and regions, and learn to interact in a mutually considerate manner

Fall term: once/week (1 period/week), 15 classes total
