Class Goals and Outline

Students will participate in part of the actual planning for a short-term winter program (2 weeks) for international students. In planning the program, they will gain fundamental knowledge related to multicultural communication. *During spring term, they will plan a short-term summer program.

Eligibility

A2.1 level in the CEFR/JF Standard for Japanese-Language Education (N3 in the JLPT).

Learning Objectives

-Learn to independently understand practical written Japanese (tourism materials/information, regional history, information on Tohoku University's characteristics and activities)

-Learn to select appropriate materials to discuss with Japanese students in Japanese and perform consensus-building

-Create and actually carry out an activity plan with Japanese and international students

Number of Classes (per week)

Fall/spring terms: once/week (2 periods/week), 15 classes total 

Course Content

-Learn about the short-term winter program (or during spring term, a short-term summer program).

-Learn basics of multicultural communication

-Give proposals for attractive short-term winter programs

-Actually participate in part of the program, observe/record how it is being implemented, participant reactions, etc.

Evaluation Method

Reports (40%): Short reports 20%, final report 20%
Participation (60%): Attendance 20%, presentations 20%, participation in program 20%
