Class Goals and Outline

Students will study, and learn to write, sentence structures/expressions and development patterns commonly used in academic writing such as reports, research presentation outlines, academic articles, etc. They will write a short article on their major at the end of the term.

Eligibility

A2.2 level in the CEFR/JF Standard for Japanese-Language Education (N3 in the JLPT). Students who need to write reports and articles in Japanese.

Learning Objectives

B1 level in the  CEFR/JF Standard for Japanese-Language Education

-Learn to combine a series of short, discrete elements into a single, cohesive, simple text related to an immediate issue

-Learn to compile gathered information in a specialized field into a report text

-Learn to write a text expressing one's own opinion on gathered information in a specialized field

Number of Classes (per week)

Fall/spring terms: once/week (1 period/week), 14 classes total

Evaluation Method

Participation (80%): Attendance, participation in class activities, homework (writing assignments)

Final report (20%): 2000-character short essay or research plan
