The Center for the Advancement of Higher Education was established in 2004 on the first of October as an educational organization of Tohoku University that administers research and development of higher education, efficient management of liberal education, and extensive support for students.  The center is an amalgamation of the former Research Center for Higher Education, Admission Center, Health Administration Center, University Counseling Center, Research Division on Information and Computer Literacy of the Information Synergy Center, and part of the International Student Center.  The center now comprises the Division of Research in Higher Education, Division of Liberal Education Programs, and Division of Student Affairs.  It thus consolidated three spheres of tertiary education, namely improvement of liberal education, development of student support, and administration of entrance examinations, all of which had previously been carried out separately by various centers and divisions, into the administration of a single organization.  The center carries out research on higher education and improves it at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.  It also aims to develop teaching methods and subjects for liberal education to satisfy individual needs of students.

From JR Sendai Station to the Center (City Bus)

Take a bus for Kōtsū Kōen (Hirose-dōri keiyu) at bus stop no. 16 at the bus terminal outside the west entrance of Sendai station and get off at Kawauchi Yūbin-kyoku Mae (bus stop 1 on the map).   Alternatively, take a bus for any of Aoba-dai, Miyakyō-dai, Narita-san, and Kōgaku-bu keiyu Dōbutsukōen Junkan at no. 9 and get off at Tōhokudai Kawauchi Campus Hagi Hall Mae or Tōhoku Daigaku Nyūshi Center Mae (bus stop 2 or 3 on the map).
